Former UFC fighter Brian Houston will return to the cage this month for Absolute Fighting Championship in Florida. Houston will be part of the card on May 16 from the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida.

Houston (4-2) was released from the UFC earlier this year after a split decision loss to Trevor Smith. He also lost to Derek Brunson after stepping in on short notice to fight in his debut inside the Octagon.

“Training has been a lot different, but effective to say the least,” said Houston, in an interview with FightLine. “I’m getting a lot done and my camp has been great.”

“I’ve been getting a lot of training partners with top-tier talent that have fights around the same time as me,” Houston said.

Houston talked previously with FightLine about making the change from a college football player to a fighter, along with his desire to return to the UFC in the future.

“I needed this obstacle in my life,” said Houston, regarding his release. “It’s leading me to my goal here on Earth.

“It was the best thing for me to get in the UFC so early. Now I know I can make a living and I know I belong in the UFC.”

Houston won his first four pro bouts, including three straight first round finishes, to earn a contract with the UFC in 2013.
