Bellator 120 Just The First Of Its Kind, Not The Last

Tonight is not a one-time experience for Bellator and CEO Bjorn Rebney. No, the promotion plans to put forth more pay-per-views going forward, just not one every “two-to-three weeks.”

Bellator 120 marks the debut for Rebney on PPV, as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson takes on Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in the main event. The card lost planned headliner Eddie Alvarez last week, but unlike in 2013, they did not scrap the idea of staying on pay-per-view.

“We’re absolutely looking to do pay-per-views in the future,” said Rebney, during an interview with Radio. “You’re never going to see our organization where we’re in a position where we’re just force-feeding one every two-to-three weeks. It’s never going to happen.

“We’ll do big, significant pa-per-view events.”

This one was expected to feature the finish of Alvarez-Michael Chandler for the lightweight title, which was being built as the “best trilogy of all-time.” The likelihood that Alvarez main events the next Bellator PPV is high, as he is currently working his way back from the head injury suffered in training.

Rebney didn’t want to lay any exact dates down or number of events for the future, saying, “We’ll do probably two or three a year that are going to be big cards that make sense. That have great fights on them and the rest we’ll do for free on Spike (TV) and keep doing big numbers.

“We’ll keep building out the next (welterweight champion Douglas) Lima and the next (middleweight champion Alexander) Shlemenko.”

Other fights this evening include Shlemenko vs. Tito Ortiz and Chandler vs. Will Brooks for the interim lightweight title.
