Rampage Jackson Not Interested In Bellator Title Fight

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson might be pulling the “teammate” card.

Jackson, who bested Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal to win the Season 10 light heavyweight tournament final at Bellator 120 Saturday night, didn’t sound interested in taking on Emanuel Newton next. Newton is the current champion, having defeated Lawal twice.

“Emanuel and I share the same coach, Antonio McKee,” said Jackson, during the post-fight press conference. “That is a factor in this. Emanuel and I both share (McKee) and we train together sometimes.

“I don’t know how that’s going to work. How that’s going to affect our gym. We are like a family.”

Jackson (35-11) improved to 3-0 since signing with Bellator by scoring the decision over Lawal. Immediately after the bout ended, he stated a desire to rematch with the ex-Strikeforce champion. Not out of fear he lost, but because he didn’t finish the fight.

Newton (23-7-1) unified the Bellator titles when he earned a split decision over Attila Vegh in March. In 2013, he defeated Lawal for the interim title, also scoring a knockout over him earlier in the year.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney simply stated that having three viable contenders “was a good thing,” and did not confirm plans for either a rematch between Jackson and Lawal or a title-fight with Jackson and Newton at the press conference.
