Bryan Caraway Riddles Erik Perez In His New Backyard

ufc fight night 42

Erik Perez was given a warm welcome to the Octagon Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 42. But his exit wasn’t so pleasant.

Bryan Caraway locked up a rear-naked choke and scored the second round submission over Perez. The win moved the alum of The Ultimate Fighter to 4-1 since joining the UFC.

Caraway (19-6) has lost only to Takeya Mizugaki via split decision in Japan, earning finishes of Mitch Gagnon, Johnny Bedford and Dustin Neace. Overall, he has 17 submission wins in his career.

“That was a super-challenging fight,” said Caraway, who shared a pose and smile with Perez during the weigh-ins on Friday. “They prepared for me taking the back. I just had to persevere.”

With a win over a fellow ranked fighter, Caraway is hoping UFC officials give him a Top-10 opponent next.

“Michael McDonald, Eddie Wineland,” he mentioned. “Any of those top guys.”

Perez (14-6) is now 4-2 with the promotion, but just 1-2 in his last three fights overall.
