UFC Fight Night 42: No More Coffee For Patrick Cummins

ufc fight night 42

Patrick Cummins’ first UFC victory will be one he treasures a little more than his Octagon debut, as the former coffeehouse worker stopped Roger Narvaez Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 42.

Cummins stepped up earlier this year and fought Daniel Cormier on short notice. The result was a lopsided defeat that left the former Penn State University wrestler with his first career loss.

“It feels good. I needed this first win,” Cummins said. “I wanted to prove that I won’t be serving coffee anymore. I am here to fight and I am ready to be in the UFC.

“I am ready for my next challenge.”

Cummins (5-1) has finished all five of his wins, but this was the first time he’s been pushed out of the first round. He used his college wrestling background to dominate Narvaez, who was making his UFC debut. He landed 40 strikes to just seven, including 36 significant ones.

“I wanted to make sure I pressured him hard and didn’t rush things,” he said. “I kept my eyes open, got the takedown, got the strike; whatever I needed to (get the finish).”

The loss dropped Narvaez to 6-1 in his MMA career.
