UFC 175: Urijah Faber Taking Alex Caceres Very Seriously

Urijah Faber

T.J. Dillashaw knew the question of fighting training partner and friend Urijah Faber would be one asked as soon as he won the UFC bantamweight title.

Faber, who brought in Dillashaw to the Team Alpha Male camp, had tried before to win the belt himself.

While Dillashaw stated the fight could happen, if the price was right, Faber took it a step further during a recent interview with “UFC Tonight.”

“I don’t want to,” he said. “Would you want to fight him? It’s a fight I wouldn’t want to do. It’d have to be a special circumstance.”

Faber (30-7) is currently scheduled to meet Alex Caceres at UFC 175 later this year. He’ll be looking to get back on track after a first round TKO loss to Renan Barao, who Dillashaw just defeated for the title.

While some feel “The California Kid” and former WEC champion shouldn’t have much trouble with Caceres, Faber isn’t taking him lightly.

“He’s a big guy and on a five-fight win streak,” he said. “I’ve got my hands full. I’m taking this guy very seriously and I’m training like a world championship fight.”

All seven of Faber’s career losses have come in championship matches. He’s defeated the likes of Michael McDonald, Ivan Menjivar, Eddie Wineland, Jens Pulver and Dominick Cruz during his career.

Touching back on Barao, though, Faber was asked about the rivalry between Team Alpha Male and Nova Uniao. The Brazilian camp also features Jose Aldo, the reigning UFC featherweight champion.

“We’ve got two camps that are two of the best in the world,” he said. “I’ve got nothing but respect for those guys. It’s a real rivalry now. I’ve lost to Aldo and I’ve lost to Barao.

“Now, we’ve got a belt and they have a belt.”
