UFC 174: Brendan Schaub Gives Arlovski Credit

Brendan Schaub has the opportunity Saturday night to defeat a former UFC heavyweight champion, as “The Hybrid” welcomes Andrei Arlovski back to the Octagon at UFC 174.

Schaub, coming off a back-to-back wins over Matt Mitrione and Lavar Johnson, is 10-3 in his MMA career. The former Ultimate Fighter runner-up has suffered knockout losses to Roy Nelson, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell.

Arlovski (21-10) has won two straight since a loss to Anthony Johnson, and is 6-1 with one no-contest since 2011. He last fought for the UFC in 20078, defeating Jake O’Brien after a decision win over Fabricio Werdum.

“Arlovski is a beast set the blueprint for athletic heavyweights like myself,” Schaub wrote on Twitter during a Q&A session. “I expect the world class AA come Saturday night.”

Schaub stated that his time on TUF helped prepare him for competing in the UFC, giving credit to his head coach on the reality series, Rashad Evans. He also said interest would be there to coach on the show himself.

“(Evans) was an amazing coach and a great friend,” he said. “Led the way for me on TUF. I would love to coach against any big names on TUF. Nelson, (Mark) Hunt, (Stipe) Miocic we would have a lot of fun.”
