It looks as if we will see the third encounter between Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler after all.
Last month, Will Brooks won the interim title when he earned a decision over Chandler. The original fight had Alvarez-Chandler, but the champion suffered an injury in training.
While the three sides have discussed the matter in both interviews and on social media, Alvarez let Brooks know that he will not be his next opponent.
“I tried my best Big homie Your boss ain’t having it,” Alvarez wrote in a message on Twitter. “I feel bad U earned it, but unfortunately Interim is all Ur getting a shot at F’ed up.”
Brooks replied, posting, “Alvarez you know what man. It is what it is homie at end of the day we just have to show up and fight no matter who it it. Whatever happens man good luck to you and your future endeavors. It was fun trash talking with you little haha.”
Alvarez is expected to become a free agent after his next fight, which sounds like it will come vs. Chandler. The two have split their previous meetings, with the title exchanging hands on both instances.
Brooks took the news with a smile on his face, adding, “I’m really grateful and greatly appreciative of the fans that have supported me and tried to help me get the Alvarez fight. Whatever decisions that are made just know I’ll continue to work my (expletive) off for you the fans and do my best to have fun and entertain.
“My life has been filled with incredible blessing and I couldn’t be anymore excited to continue trying to share my blessing with the fans.”
