UFC president Dana White confirmed that Hector Lombard has been forced out of a planned UFC Fight Night 48 co-main event bout with Dong Hyun Kim. Officials have already found a replacement, signing Tyron Woodley for the match.
Set for August 23, the event takes place from The Venetian in Macau, China. Michael Bisping and Cung Le square off in the main event.
Woodley (13-3) suffered a decision loss to Rory MacDonald earlier this month. The former Strikeforce No. 1 contender was trying to work his way into UFC title contention. He is now 3-2 with the promotion.
Kim (19-2-1) has won 10 of his 12 Octagon fights, including a recent finish over John Hathaway that improved his win streak to four in a row. “Stun Gun” finished off Erick Silva last year and has earned fight-night bonuses in each of his last two bouts.
There was no announcement of the extent of Lombard’s injury. Lombard and Woodley are American Top Team teammates.
“Heal up champ!” Woodley posted on Twitter. “ATT will still advance.”
So far, Bisping-Le and Woodley-Kim are the only bouts announced for the night.
