UFC Fight Night 44 Recap: Ray Borg Shows Impressive Skills

ufc fight night 44

Ray Borg’s UFC debut in April didn’t go as planned, falling for the first time in his career to Dustin Ortiz.

Borg, though, didn’t mope around and cry about the decision. Instead, he re-focused and stormed through Shane Howell Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 44.

The 20-year-old Borg (7-1) scored his fifth submission win of his career – all via rear-naked choke – when he locked up the hold on Howell in the first round.

“I thought I beat Dustin Ortiz in my last fight, but I just put it behind me and moved forward,” Borg said. “Thank you to Shane Howell for taking this fight on short notice.”

With all but two of his wins coming via rear-naked choked, Borg simply stated that “it’s what I do”” when asked about his string of submission wins. In fact, each of his last three victories have come via that form of choke, with the other two coming in the second round.

As for what’s next, Borg didn’t want to challenge anyone at this time.

“I’m young and I’ve heard a lot of people talk about enjoying the ride,” Borg said. “That’s what I’m doing. (Getting to the UFC) was one of my biggest accomplishments.

“I’m here to stay and I’m just riding the wave.”

Borg needed to land just four strikes before taking things to the ground and securing the submission.

Howell (13-8) had his six-fight win streak snapped with the loss.
