UFC 175: Ronda Rousey Sets Sights On One More 2014 Fight

Ronda Rousey likes the idea of competing on the big stage.

As a former U.S. Olympian, she has grown up doing just that. And, now as the UFC female bantamweight champion, the stage has been set before her to compete.

This coming Saturday night, Rousey will look to defend her belt against Alexis Davis at UFC 175 in the co-main event. After that, she wants to put her attention on rest before looking to return to action to close out 2014.

“I really like the three-times-a-year pace for a champion,” said Rousey, during a recent interview with “I think that really makes sense, and this year, I wouldn’t mind doing four fights. I would like to fight again on New Year’s.

“But first, I’ve got to beat Alexis. I’ll think about the next one later.”

Rousey (9-0) has already defeated both Sara McMann and Miesha Tate this year, taking time out of her busy MMA schedule to film movie roles. To close out 2013, she competed on the year-end event that featured Chris Weidman defeating Anderson Silva. Weidman will be in action this weekend, as well, taking on Lyoto Machida.

“I would like to fight again at New Year’s, but that’s completely up to the UFC,” she said. “I really like the feeling of these big cards: the New Year’s and the Fourth of July events. I feel like those are the biggest of the year and I feel like I’m a big enough draw that I deserve to be on the biggest cards of the year.”

Davis (16-5) is a perfect 3-0 since signing with the UFC. She is a 9-to-1 underdog, though, to Rousey.
