WSOF’s David Branch Reflects On Emotions Of World Title Victory

New World Series of Fighting middleweight champion David Branch feels he is in control of the division going forward.

Recently, Branch won the inaugural WSOF title by finishing Jesse Taylor in a tournament final. Now, the 32-year-old plans to just wait for his challengers to come after him.

“I’m in a position where I can let guys come to me,” said Branch, during an interview with MMAjunkie.com Radio. “I’m the champ. The rankings, that’s just a matter of opinion. The mission is to defend my title and then take it from there.”

Branch (14-3) has won each of his last four fights since a 2012 decision loss to Anthony Johnson. He is 8-2 in his last 10, with the other defeating coming at the hands of fellow WSOF champion Rousimar Palhares in his last bout in the UFC.

The Charlotte native went 2-2 with the UFC following a one-fight appearance in Bellator that saw him submit heavyweight Derrick Mehmen in the second round.

“A lot of people didn’t have me winning that fight,” Branch said, of his title bout with Taylor. “I just silenced everybody who doubted me. It was just joy, so much that tears came out. I was overwhelmed with all kinds of happiness and emotion.

“My background, I came from nothing. I had it really hard coming up in tenement buildings and projects as a kid. To be on national TV with so many people around me…it was a really amazing thing.”
