Anderson Silva Talks Nick Diaz, Chris Weidman

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has no interest at this time of stepping inside the Octagon with Chris Weidman for a third time.

Last July, Weidman defeated Silva, taking the middleweight strap and the lengthy win streak of “The Spider” with him. In December, he again defeated the Brazilian, leaving him with a broken leg that will likely keep him out of action for all of 2014.

Some fans of Silva have made it their desire to see him try and avenge those two losses. He, though, doesn’t see it that way.

“Rematch with Chris Weidman is something that is not in my plans,” said Silva, during a recent interview with Globo. “He already defeated me twice, everybody saw this. Lyoto (Machida) has an opportunity to fight him. We also have (Ronaldo) ‘Jacare’ (Souza) who’s coming and looking for his way.

“Let’s root for them to get their space in the UFC and get their shot at the title, win it, become great champions and bring big wins for Brazil.”

Silva, though, remains on course to compete again, and responded to the rumors of a potential showdown with Nick Diaz in 2015. Diaz, who is currently retired, is a former Strikeforce champion and No. 1 contender in the welterweight division.

“If everybody is saying that it would be an interesting fight, what am I going to say,” Silva said. “It could be an interesting fight.”

Machida will get that shot this weekend when he faces Weidman for the middleweight title at UFC 175.
