Lyoto Machida Calls Chris Weidman “Complete Fighter”

ufc 175

Lyoto Machida has a good track record when faced up against undefeated fighters.

Machida was the first person to defeat Rashad Evans, earning the UFC light heavyweight title in the process. To earn that championship match, “The Dragon” dealt Thiago Silva his first loss at the time.

Tonight, Machida can do the same to Chris Weidman and become the middleweight champion along the way as the two square off at UFC 175. FightLine will have complete coverage of the entire event.

“I have a good result against undefeated fighters,” said Machida, during a recent interview on UFC Tonight. “Rashad was undefeated and Thiago was undefeated. I can do my best. I can’t say my strategy for the fight.”

Machida has scored two straight wins at middleweight since moving down, defeating Gegard Mousasi and Mark Munoz. In Weidman, he’ll be facing a man who has stopped Anderson Silva twice in a row.

“He’s a complete fighter,” Machida said. “Every time I fight a wrestler, I feel very comfortable because I can keep my distance. It’s for sure he’s going to grab me, but I’ll be prepared for the defense and I’m prepared to go to the ground.”

Revenge for his fallen teammate and friend, Silva, is not the focus for Machida. That remains becoming the champion again.

“My main goal is to be a champ for a long time,” Machida said.
