Ronda Rousey Felt Quick Finish Coming At UFC 175

UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey left the Octagon Saturday night following a 16-second victory over Alexis Davis at UFC 175 the worse for wear.

Rousey was forced to have stitches placed in her right hand after a cut was opened up, and added that she needed to have her knee looked at. However, neither injury actually happened during the fight itself.

“This has been an injury (to the hand) I’ve been dealing with since UFC 158,” Rousey said, during the post-fight show on FS1. “It’s my Hollywood injury. It hasn’t had time to heal. I already had something scheduled to get it looked at after this. It turns out the first overhand right, there was a cyst in my knuckle and it exploded. Now I have stitches in my hand.

“And I have to get my knee scoped (she had surgery when she was 16) in a couple of days. I’ll be out for four weeks.”

The “four weeks” comment ends any prospect of Rousey returning to action in August and competing at UFC 176. That card recently lost a planned main event between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes, and Joe Rogan asked Rousey about fighting on the card after her win.

As for taking care of Davis in just a matter of right-hand, followed by a hip toss and complete with ground-and-pound, it was something Rousey envisioned.

“She was out with the first overhand right and she was falling into me,” Rousey said. “I don’t have the confidence to do the walkaway knockout. I didn’t want to let her recover and wake back up.

“I was being thorough. I feel very satisfied.”
