UFC Fight Night 46’s Gunnar Nelson Still Unbeaten

ufc fight night 46

Gunnar Nelson has precise striking and excellent wrestling.

However, it is his submission game that should have the UFC’s welterweight division concerned.

Nelson earned his second straight victory via choke Saturday, defeating Zak Cummings in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 46.

Since starting his MMA career in 2007 with a draw, Nelson (13-0-1) has won 13 straight – eight of those via submission.

“You have to seize every opportunity,” Nelson said. “I saw him slowing down and I started feeling my rhythm. He’s strong.”

Nelson earned a March submission victory over Omari Akhmedov after a year-plus layoff. He’s also defeated Jorge Santiago and DaMarques Johnson inside the Octagon.

So, following another impressive win, what’s next for the Icelandic fighter?

“I don’t have a particular opponent in mind,” he said. “I just want to climb the ladder, get a Top-5 or Top-10 guy next.”

The loss dropped Cummings to 17-4 overall and snapped a four-fight win streak that included Octagon victories over Yan Cabral and Ben Alloway.
