Khabib Nurmagomedov Looking At Six-Plus Months On Sidelines

Khabib Nurmagomedov

UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov will likely spend the rest of 2014 on the sidelines following a torn meniscus in his right leg.

Nurmagomedov’s manager, Mike Constantino, confirmed with MMAjunkie.com that the unbeaten fighter could be back quicker if his rehab progresses quicker than expected.

Prior to suffering in the injury, UFC officials have booked Nurmagomedov (22-0) for a fight with fellow 155-pound contender Donald Cerrone (24-6).

“I was hoping that he didn’t require surgery and it was just a bump and a bruise, but it turned out to be meniscus, so I’m a little bit disappointed to hear it was that severe,” Constantino said. “But you can’t jerk around with it. You’ve got to get it done.”

The 25-year-old Nurmagomedov has won all six of his Octagon appearances, including a win over Rafael dos Anjos.
