Stipe Miocic will get his shot at taking down former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos after all.
Dos Santos (16-3) will have gone over a year without a fight due to a hand injury suffered in training just weeks before a planned May battle with Miocic. “Cigano” last fought in November, losing to Cain Velasquez in a rematch for the heavyweight title.
Both UFC losses for dos Santos have come at the hands of Velasquez, as he has won his other 10.
Miocic (12-1) stayed on that May card and defeated Fabio Maldonado via first round knockout. He is 6-1 in his Octagon career, losing only to Stefan Struve.
The card currently features two other heavyweight bouts, as Alistair Overeem faces Struve and Gabriel Gonzaga meets Matt Mitrione. The current lineup can be found below:
Heavyweight: Junior dos Santos vs. Stipe Miocic
Heavyweight: Stefan Struve vs. Alistair Overeem
Lightweight: Jamie Varner vs. Drew Dober
Middleweight: Derek Brunson vs. Ed Herman
Lightweight: Joe Ellenberger vs. Bryan Barberena
Heavyweight: Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Matt Mitrione
