UFC 178: “Alpha’s” Title Shot On The Line

ufc 182

UFC 178 is setting up to be quite the night for Cat Zingano.

“Alpha” returns to action for the first time in almost two full years against Amanda Nunes as the pay-per-view opener. Also, Zingano can secure a title shot she previously earned by seeing her hand raised.

“Cat’s No. 1 (contender if she defeats Nunes),” said UFC president Dana White, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com earlier this week. “Cat’s No. 1. Yup.”

Zingano (8-0) earned the title of No. 1 contender when she bested Miesha Tate in early 2013. However, during training, the 32-year-old suffered a serious knee injury and was forced out of not only the championship match with Ronda Rousey, but a spot on The Ultimate Fighter as a head coach.

After working her way back to 100-percent, Zingano was forced to deal with the passing of her husband and coach, Mauricio Zingano.

Zingano-Rousey could be booked for UFC 182 on January 3if all goes well. It would likely be the co-main event to a headline bout between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier.

FightLine will have complete UFC 178 results Saturday night, including play-by-play and immediate post-fight analysis.
