Cung Le Given Opportunity To Clear His Name

Cung Le

Cung Le will have the opportunity to legally try and clear his name after a drug test found HGH in his system.

UFC president Dana White told ESPN recently that Le has been given clearance to file an appeal that will be overseen by a third-party arbitrator.

“The (American Arbitration Association) would hear whatever Cung Le’s arguments are,” UFC chief operating officer Lawrence Epstein said. “He has a certain time to file his intention to appeal. An arbitration panel would be set up, he’ll make his case, arbitration will make its decision and that will be the end of it.”

Le’s manager, Gary Ibarra, stated “of course” when asked if they plan to exercise the right to appeal.

“The UFC is fully aware of the issues we have with the testing,” he said. “These are valid arguments we have raised.”

The former Strikeforce champion submitted a post-fight blood test after his August loss to Michael Bisping. He had human growth hormone levels above normal range and was subsequently fined and suspended for a year.

Le contested that since the Hong Kong Functional Medical Testing Center was not a certified lab by the World Anti-Doping Agency, the test was put into question.
