UFC 183: Anderson Silva On Nick Diaz, Fighting For Title

ufc 183

The title-pursuit of Anderson Silva remains a seemingly ever-changing feel.

Some interviews, Silva says he has no desire to ever wear the UFC middleweight belt again. In others, it is all he talks about.

Recently, Silva interviewed by his manager Jorge Guimaraes on Passando a Guarda and talked about getting himself back into the role of a title contender after facing Nick Diaz in January at UFC 183.

“I think about fighting for the title again, of course,” Silva said (thanks to MMAFighting.com for transcribing). “I have seven fights left in my contract and, if I have a chance to fight for the title again, I will fight. I will fight the fights I have left in my contract and, if I earn a chance to fight for the title one day, against (Chris Weidman) or not – not being a friend or a training partner – I will be happy.”

Weidman has scored two straight finishes of Silva, earning the title the first time and successfully defending it last December. In that meeting, “The Spider” suffered a gruesome broken leg that has left him sidelined and recovery since.

Many believed the loss to Weidman would mark an end to Silva’s fighting career, but the Brazilian sounds enthused to be competing once again.

“I’m really excited. It’s my comeback, I have to be excited,” he said. “I’m training a lot, really happy with everything that is happening.

“Nick Diaz is a tough guy. He fights really well, has a great physical condition and a great technique, so it’s going to be a nice fight. If Nick does a clean fight, if he fights standing without stalling, we’ll do a spectacular fight. Nick has great boxing and it’s going to be a fantastic fight. Every UFC fan will like it.”
