UFC Fight Night 59: McGregor Headed To Boston

ufc fight night 59

Conor McGregor was talked about as the next contender to the UFC featherweight title. Instead, he’ll step inside the Octagon this January against Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59.

Set for January 18 from Boston’s TD Garden, the event will follow FOX’s broadcast of the NFC championship game, with fights airing on FOX Sports and UFC Fight Pass. It is expected that McGregor-Siver will be joined by Donald Cerrone vs. Myles Jury for the Sunday card.

McGregor (16-2) is currently in Brazil to help promote Saturday’s UFC 179 event, which boasts Jose Aldo defending his 145-pound title against Chad Mendes. He is 4-0 since joining the promotion, including a recent first round TKO win over Dustin Poirier.

Siver (22-9) owns an 11-6 overall Octagon mark, including a win over Charles Rosa in his most recent appearance.

The McGregor-Siver fight will serve as the main event, meaning it will be scheduled for five rounds. The booking also means the UFC will be throwing many of its top guns out in January to start the new year, as Jon Jones fights Daniel Cormier, Anderson Silva returns against Nick Diaz and Ronda Rousey defends her title vs. Cat Zingano.
