Kenny Florian and newly-introduced co-host, Daniel Cormier, broke down tonight’s main event at UFC 179 during a recent edition of “UFC Tonight.
Both have extensive backgrounds in the sport, as Florian was a multi-weight, multi-time title contender, while Cormier will get his first crack at achieving UFC gold next year.
For Cormier, the improvement in Mendes since he first entered the Octagon is evident. The former wrestling standout has finished four of his last five opponents on the feet.
“Before, it was wrestle, wrestle, wrestle in hope to win the fight, but now he can do everything,” Cormier said. “He’s got to push the pace and move forward, get in his face and make him uncomfortable. He has to vary his attack, use his knees and punches. He needs to take him down. He can’t have a striking battle with Aldo.”
Florian actually shared the Octagon with Aldo at one point before retiring from the sport.
