UFC Fight Night 57: Cub Swanson Accepts His Loss

ufc fight night 57

Cub Swanson was prepared to take that next step and challenge for the UFC featherweight title.

Instead, he was humbled by former champion Frankie Edgar and sent back to the drawing board. Edgar earned a fifth-round submission victory in a bout he controlled throughout at UFC Fight Night 57.

After stringing together a six-fight win streak, Swanson (21-6) was unable to overcome Edgar (18-4-1). However, like many pro athletes do, he admitted the loss was a learning experience for himself during an interview on FOX Sports 1 after.

“It was super frustrating, but he did what he had to do and he exposed me,” Swanson said. “I was super-confident. I thought I prepared…I obviously under-prepared. I want to thank him for the lesson; I’m going to get better.”

The 31-year-old Swanson is a notorious hard puncher, but he’s struggled vs. sound wrestlers in the past. He’s lost to the likes of Ricardo Lamas and Chad Mendes previously in his career.

While many would have sat on the sidelines and waited to cash in on a likely title shot, Swanson accepted his toughest fight to date.

“I took this fight because I felt he was one of the best in the world and I wanted to test myself,” he said. “I’m getting up there in age and I wanted to see how bad I am.”
