Bellator’s Will Brooks Fought Injured

Will Brooks

Will Brooks overcame more than just his opponent in winning the Bellator lightweight title recently.

Brooks told MMAjunkie.com Radio that he suffered a torn hamstring two months prior to his recent fight vs. Michael Chandler, but never looked at backing out or delaying the contest.

“I just refused to not fight,” said Brooks, who suffered a first round broken rib in the win.

During the weeks leading up to the bout, which Brooks won with a fourth round TKO victory, he spoke out on Twitter and in interviews about his issues with how he was being promoted and other matters. None of that is of his concern now, as he is the champion and wears the belt.

Brooks was informed that he had a Grade 2 hamstring tear after checking with a doctor. The injury happened while wrestling with Nik Lentz.

Upon the doctor telling him he should pull out of the contest, Brooks promptly left.

“As soon as he said that, me and my girlfriend walked out of the room,” Brooks said. “We were like, ‘Nah, that’s not really an option.'”
