Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks knows what it feels like to lose a decision.
Now, he knows what that feels like when the title was previously his.
Last year, “Bigg Rigg” lost via decision to Georges St-Pierre. He came back to win the vacant belt over Robbie Lawler, but dropped it Saturday night at UFC 181.
“I thought I clearly won the first three rounds,” he said, during the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. “The fourth and fifth rounds, the body just shut down. He came on strong.
“Early on, my takedown were great. I was trying to wear him down, grind him and get his arms tired, but it did the total opposite.”
Hendricks didn’t take anything away from Lawler, who earned his first UFC title. He did mention plans to control his weight outside of fight-week with famed nutritionist Mike Dolce.
“I had a bad weight cut,” he said. “Maybe I can’t balloon up to 215 pounds. The weight came off early and then it stopped.
“Robbie is the champion and now I get excited to fight someone else.”
