Lorenz Larkin was stuck in a three-fight losing skid when he decided to move down to welterweight.
It paid off Sunday night at UFC Fight Night 59, as Larkin (15-4) finished John Howard for his victory win since 2013, and his first finish since 2011.
Larkin, who previously defeated current UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler when both were in Strikeforce, is now 2-4 with inside the Octagon.
“I had a long talk with my team and they gave me the right stuff to (do the weight cut),” Larkin said. “It wasn’t that hard.”
He credited Mark Munoz, a fellow UFC fighter, for giving him the right advice to get down to 170 pounds.
“Munoz told me to run slow for hours,” he said. “The weight dropped off.”
Howard (22-11) suffered his third straight loss since returning to the UFC.
