Without revealing his entire plans, UFC president Dana White shined some light on the fighting future of Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson.
Both were defeated last month, as Cormier lost to Jon Jones for the UFC title and Gustafsson was finished by Anthony Johnson. But, they are not lined up to face each other.
“Cormier’s got another fight set up and we actually have another fight for Gustafsson,” White said. “After those fights, it’d make sense (for them to meet).”
Who those two could meet was not released by White.
Cormier (15-1) lost for the first time in his MMA career when Jones was awarded a decision, while Gustafsson (16-3) was stopped by strikes for the first time, falling to 8-3 with the promotion.
A quick look at the UFC rankings reveals Rashad Evans and Ryan Bader lined up after the two contenders. Evans, though, has yet to announce plans to return from an injury; Bader is coming off a win over Phil Davis.
