Daniel Cormier and Kenny Florian offered up their thoughts on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 61 event earlier this week, discussing the main event between heavyweights Frank Mir and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
Mir and Silva will highlight the FOX Sports 1 card from Brazil, as both are in desperate need of a victory.
Cormier, who previously meet Silva while both were in Strikeforce, knows where his former opponent is the most dangerous. He also owns a victory over Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion.
“Bigfoot is a guy who can do everything. We saw in his fight against Fedor, he can wrestle,” Cormier said. “If he gets you down, it’s over. He can knock you out, like he did with Travis Browne. He needs to mix it up. Don’t follow the pattern. If he starts the fight with a leg kick, Frank Mir will catch it and throw the overhand left. Mir has improved his standup and now will stand with guys. If he gets his hands on you, he can put you out.”
Florian, meanwhile, believes the opening few minutes will tell the tale of the contest.
“Bigfoot has to get off to a fast start. He has to move forward and take the fight to the mat,” Florian said. “But he doesn’t want to be on his back, he wants to be on the top. He has excellent ground and pound. He will be at a speed disadvantage. Mir is a tricky southpaw. Southpaws give guys problems. I think Mir has more ways to win. He has to use everything, show variety, and mix things up with Bigfoot.”
