ufc fight night 62

For Erick Silva, the time is now to put together a win streak and make his march up the UFC’s welterweight division ladder.

Silva delighted the Brazilian crowd Saturday night, submitting Josh Koscheck at UFC Fight Night 62 and earning his 11th first round finish.

After nearly stopping the former No. 1 contender with his strikes early, Silva found an opening and secured the choke, which was his second straight submission. He’s now 5-3 in his last eight, with all five victories being in the first round.

“I had a lot to prove this camp and (Saturday night),” he said. “I came here and I won.”

He’s found good fortune fighting in his home country where five of his last six have taken place. Silva’s earned four wins in those six bouts.

“I knew he would try to grapple,” Silva said. “I trained a lot and the plan was to keep the fight standing.”

For Koscheck (17-10), the loss was his fifth straight, keeping him winless since 2012.
