Michael Johnson, a former competitor himself on The Ultimate Fighter, discussed the upcoming season that will see American Top Team take on the Blackzilians Saturday during UFC Fight Night 63.
The season begins airing later this month on FOX Sports 1 from Florida, bringing a different sense of competition to the reality show.
“The relationship is crazy, nuts,” he said. “Going back and forth with two high-level teams you are always going to have guys bumping heads.
“It is going to be an amazing season. The tension, the energy built up in the gyms.”
Two Octagons were set up at both camps, with the fight winners earning the chance to host the next bout. Money will be handed out to the winners, making it even more important to find success.
Johnson, who competed on the show in Las Vegas, says the move to Florida helps everyone.
“It’s better because they weren’t taken away from their homes,” he said. “They get to compete with their families and teammates right there.”
As for his own next fight, Johnson reiterated plans to fight former champion Benson Henderson. The two agreed to a bout via Twitter recently.
“Ben’s a great competitor,” he said. “That’s the fight I want. Nobody in this division can beat me. If I get a fight with Ben, a title shot is mine next.”
