Bellator MMA Inks Melvin Guillard To Multi-Fight Contract

Melvin Guillard

Melvin Guillard has found a new home, as the UFC and World Series of Fighting veteran is headed to Bellator MMA.

Guillard, 32 years old, signed a multi-fight, multi-year contract with the promotion on Monday. He currently holds the UFC record for finishes via knockout or TKO in the lightweight division with eight.

“We are excited to have Melvin coming onboard,” Bellator president Scott Coker said. “With competitors the likes of lightweight champion Will Brooks, Michael Chandler, Marcin Held, Derek Anderson, Saad Awad, Dave Jansen and Patricky ‘Pitbull’ on the roster already, the match up possibilities for an exciting fighter like him are endless.”

After a nine-year run in the Octagon where he won 14 bouts, Guillard signed with the WSOF. He went 1-1, finishing Gesias Cavalcante and losing a non-title fight to lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. The bout was originally set to be for the belt, but “The Young Assassin” missed weight.

Earlier this year, the WSOF had Guillard scheduled for a fight when they decided to remove him complete due to a failure to obtain his medical records.

Guillard holds wins over such fighters as Mac Danzig, Shane Roller, Evan Dunham, Jeremy Stephens, Gleison Tibau, Dennis Siver and Marcus Davis. He has scored 21 knockouts wins to his credit.
