UFC Fight Night 65: James Vick Stays Perfect With Finish

ufc fight night 65

James Vick wasn’t defending the strikes of Jake Matthews early in the first round Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 65.

He was bloodied and bruised, but with just seconds left, Vick saw an opening and took it, locking up a first round guillotine submission win and remaining unbeaten.

Vick (8-0) landed a knee that rocked Matthews, followed up with a pair of quick uppercuts and found the neck hanging out there. He pounced and gave Matthews his first career loss.

“The kid is tough,” he said. “I knew he was going to come out and try to finish me. I just had to weather the storm and I knew I would kick it in gear and be just fine.”

With the win, Vick has now won four in a row, placing him in a tie for fifth in the lightweight division.

On Twitter before the fight, Vick told UFC announcer Jon Anik to “bet the house on me,” and he made sure to remind Anik of that proclamation during the post-fight interview.
