Dana White Sounds Off On Conor McGregor-Jose Aldo

Jose Aldo

UFC president Dana White returned to his “Download” interview to touch base on a number of subjects.

That includes the upcoming July title fight between UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and challenger Conor McGregor. The two got heated over several world-wide tour stops, and will finally settle the score when the cage door closes.

White believes it is the “perfect fight” at a perfect time.

“You have a guy like Jose Aldo, who’s gone undefeated for 10 years, defended his title 10 times and is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” White said. “He’s going against a guy like Conor, who burst onto the scene with 13 straight wins and has this confidence in himself and that thing that attracts people to him.

“Conor has come into the UFC and basically done everything he said he was going to do. Now the question is: Can he beat Jose Aldo?”

The added hatred the two have shown one another only makes it that much more interesting for the boss, who added that Aldo-McGregor has “made this division really fun.”

White touched on the recent victory by Chris Weidman, as the reigning middleweight champion finished Vitor Belfort in little time.

Since topping Anderson Silva, Weidman’s downed Silva in a rematch and defended vs. Lyoto Machida and now Belfort.

“He’s on a Jon Jones-type run right now in the 185-pound division,” White said. “The thing is with Jon Jones is that he went four years taking out all the best 205-pounders in the world. Weidman is beating straight killers right now.”

The UFC 187 card also featured former champion Andrei Arlovski stunning Travis Browne and vaulting himself near title-contention. Arlovski injured himself early in the week and was doubtful to compete just hours before the card went live.

“It would be incredible if he makes his way back to the UFC title,” White said. “We’ll see what happens. We have (Fabricio) Werdum next, so I’m not even thinking about who’s after that in the heavyweight division.”
