UFC Fight Night 68: Brian Ortega Returns With A Vengeance

ufc fight night 68

Coming off a suspension for failing his post-fight drug test, Brian Ortega earned the biggest win of his career, stopping Thiago Tavares Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 68.

Ortega (9-0) did his damage from the back, busting open the face of Tavares with vicious elbows. However, the result was still in question until he floored the Brazilian with a strike in the third, following up and forcing the ref to step in.

“We wanted the fight on the ground,” he said. “(Tavares) took me down, but I mad it a dog fight on the ground. Those elbows….he’s very good and was stopping the submissions so we had to go to the stand-up.”

Ortega also brought an interesting sound from the crowd while describing the “warmth” of the blood from Tavares that dropped into his mouth during his post-fight interview.”

Last July, Ortega bested Mike De La Torre, but the result was changed to a no-contest after he tested positive for drostanolone. He is a former RTC and Resurrection Fighting Alliance featherweight champion.
