UFC 189: Thomas Almeida Finishes Brad Pickett

Thomas Almeida stayed unbeaten Saturday night at UFC 189, doing so with an impressive clean knockout of Brad Pickett.

Almeida and Pickett each knocked the other one down in the first round, but it was the Brazilian who landed in the second. Just moments into the round, Almeida (20-0) saw an opening for a knee and converted, dropping the Brit with a sickening thud.

“Brad is very tough, a very tough opponent,” he said. “It took some time, but I handled it.

“This was very important for my career. I am forged of iron and here to stay.”

The 23-year-old Almeida has now stopped each of his 2015 opponents, adding Pickett to a first round TKO win over Yves Jabouin earlier this year. He started his UFC career with a decision win over Tim Gorman last year.

Pickett, moving back to bantamweight after a run at flyweight, dropped the prospect twice inside of the first few minutes and broke his nose with his hands. However, he was unable to survive the knee, which landed as he came in for another onslaught.
