UFC 189: Matt Brown Back On Track

ufc 189

Matt Brown knew he needed a win, and knew what a strong performance would do for his stock Saturday night at UFC 189.

With a simple takedown and choke, “The Immortal” accomplished both of those things, ending his two-fight losing skid with a first round submission win over Tim Means in the prelim feature.

After a pair of decision losses to current division champion Robbie Lawler and former titleholder Johny Hendricks, Brown was able to withstand several nasty elbows by Means and land his own.

“I am real happy (with the win),” he said. “I had a hard camp, the best camp of my life. Everything’s coming together real quick and I am still looking to be a champion.

“I’m not going anywhere.”

Brown had won seven in a row before the pair of decision defeats, including five straight finishes. His submission over Means was the 12th of his career, setting a new welterweight record.

“(Means) made a mistake and I took advantage,” Brown said. “I have a lot of respect for Tim Means.”
