UFC On FOX 16 Reax: T.J. Dillashaw Masterful Again

ufc on fox 16

Over the course of nine rounds of action, T.J. Dillashaw has bruised, battered and left Renan Barao a broken fighter.

Saturday night at UFC on FOX 16, Dillashaw successfully retained his UFC bantamweight title, finishing the previous Top-5 pound-for-pound fighter for the second time.

Dillashaw, who won the title last year with a fifth round TKO over the Brazilian, stopped him in the fourth round – and just 35 seconds into it no less – this time around. He landed 168 of 273 total strikes, including 115 significant ones.

In comparison, Barao hit just 65 total strikes during the fight. Both were 0-for-5 on takedown attempts.

“I came in a little more aggressive at the beginning,” he said. “I tested my will. I train harder – in my mind – than he does.”

Right from the first bell, Dillashaw (12-2) was in complete control, though he did admit that Barao “hit me a little more than I wanted.”

“He’s a killer,” the Team Alpha Male and Ultimate Fighter alum added. “He’s good.”

On this night, though, Dillashaw was better. He out-struck Barao at every corner, catching him seconds into the fourth and unloading a barrage of lefts and rights to force referee Herb Dean to step in.

With the stoppage win, Dillashaw earned his sixth UFC finish, which is second-most in the bantamweight division when you take into account fights from both the UFC and WEC.
