UFC 191: John Dodson Sees Chance To Shine

john dodson

John Dodson feels he is the one to take the flyweight fighters to the next level.

Dodson, a former Ultimate Fighter winner, will get his chance to win UFC gold in September when he meets Demetrious Johnson for the title.

The last time Dodson was dealt defeat came at the hands of “Mighty Mouse,” as he was on the wrong end of a decision. Since, Johnson has reeled off impressive win after impressive win, while Dodson returned from a knee injury to work his way into another championship match.

“DH has been a plaque in our division,” said Dodson, during a recent appearance on UFC Tonight. “Keeping us from stardom. We’re the true talent. The lighter classes are more technical, we’re very fast and we have better movement.

“I’m going to shut him down with power. I did it the first time and I’ll do it again.”

The 30-year-old has scored three straight wins since that 2013 loss to Johnson, knocking out Darrell Montague and John Moraga before scoring a decision vs. former Bellator champion Zach Makovsky. He also holds a 2011 TKO finish of current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw to his credit.

“I’ve already beat DJ once and they’re telling me I have to do it again? Sure,” he said. “Then I’ll beat up Dillashaw again. I’ve seen him with his eyes glazed over, cuddling around (referee) Herb Dean. I can do it again.”
