Dominick Cruz Can Resume Training Again

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has been cleared to return to training after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL, according to a report on “UFC Tonight.”

Cruz (20-1) tore the other ligament after returning from a three-year hiatus to best Takeya Mizugaki back in 2014. He was sidelined with both knee injuries and a groin issue after defending his title vs. Demetrious Johnson in 2011.

After giving him several opportunities to return, the UFC stripped Cruz of his belt and awarded it to Renan Barao, who was the interim champion at the time. Barao went on to lose to T.J. Dillashaw, and most have Dillashaw-Cruz pegged for either late in 2015 or early in 2016.

Following a 2007 loss to Urijah Faber for the WEC featherweight title, Cruz put together one of the more incredible runs in MMA. He picked up 11 consecutive victories, including wins over Faber, Joseph Benavidez, Brian Bowles and Johnson, the current UFC flyweight titleholder.
