Stephen Thompson On The Road To Recovery

Stephen Thompson

UFC welterweight contender Stephen Thompson is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery to repair an injured knee.

Thompson suffered the injury during his win in July over Jake Ellenberger, according to a report on “UFC Tonight.”

After connecting with a spinning attack, Thompson was forced to put more pressure on his left leg to compensate for the injury to his right heel. That resulted in a meniscus tear and sent “Wonderboy” to the sidelines.

Following surgery earlier this month, Thompson’s dad, Ray, informed the program that his son is targeting a return in either December or January – and that he plans to be prepared if a short-notice opponent is needed.

The 32-year-old Thompson (11-1) has won five in a row since a decision loss to Matt Brown. That includes finishes of Ellenberger, Robert Whittaker and Chris Clements, along with a decision victory over former title contender Patrick Cote.
