Chad Mendes knows what a win over Frankie Edgar will do both for his current status and his career resume.
The two meet tonight in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale from Las Vegas.
With both being former title contenders to the featherweight belt, Mendes wants nothing more than to get back into the Octagon with either Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor.
But right now, it’s all about Edgar.
“I’m not thinking about that. Right now I’m fighting Frankie Edgar, that’s my focus,” Mendes said, during a recent interview with UFC Tonight. “He’s a legend in the sport. When he moved down to featherweight, I knew we’d be fighting eventually. Getting a win over him would be huge for my career.”
As for how he goes about besting the former UFC lightweight champion, that has been put together by his coaches.
“We have the game plan,” he said. “If we stick to it we’ll get the win.”
