UFC On FOX 17 Reax: Nate Marquardt Shows His Power

ufc on fox 17

They say that for fighters, the last thing to go is your power.

Nate Marquardt is proving that right.

Marquardt scored a highlight-reel knockout of C.B. Dollaway Saturday at UFC on FOX 17, connecting with a counter-right that floored Dollaway.

For Marquardt (34-15-2), the win was his first since a 2014 submission over James Te Huna and his first KO finish since 2012 when he finished Tyron Woodley for the Strikeforce title.

“I went into this fight working on my mental game. Sticking to technique and not making it an emotional thing,” Marquardt said. “I just focused on points and openings. The first round, I was just closed off trying to see where he was open. I was up against the cage at one point, so he popped me in the mouth but I was fine right after.”

After suffering consecutive defeats, Marquardt decided to return to former coach Trevor Wittman.

“I feel like I’m back with my coach who I need to be with. I’ve been doing this for a long time and I have a lot of skills, but if my basics aren’t there, it won’t work,” he said. “I’m just excited to be back in the win column. That was probably one of the best fights I’ve ever felt. I was so mentally clear. I felt good, so I’m looking for good stuff to come.”
