T.J. Dillashaw came out and tried to figure out how and where to hit Dominick Cruz.
After struggling through the first 10 minutes, it appeared as if Dillashaw had found his range at UFC Fight Night 81 Sunday night.
In the end, though, it wasn’t enough, as Cruz reclaimed the bantamweight title with a split decision victory.
“I felt after the last two rounds that I had won the fight,” he said. “I want to do it again. Props to Dominick Cruz for coming back. I was not a fan of his antics before the fight, but congrats to him.”
Dillashaw (12-3) suffered his first loss since a 2013 defeat to Raphael Assuncao, who’s injury opened the door for him to challenge Renan Barao for the title the next year. He defended it vs. Barao and Joe Soto, scoring late-round finishes both times.
“It’s my fault,” he said. “I left it in the hands. It’s just unfortunate that is the way it is.”
