Surgery will be the next thing on the agenda for Phil “CM Punk” Brooks.
According to a report by MMAFighting.com, the former WWE superstar will have surgery to fix a herniated disc in Chicago. He is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks, much like former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
News of the injury comes just days after Punk and Mickey Gall stepped inside the Octagon to face off following Gall’s win at UFC Fight Night 82 over Mike Jackson. The two were expected to meet later this year, but the timetable for Punk’s debut has now been derailed.
“My back has always bugged me,” he said. “Figured it was just wrestling (expletive). Turns out it was.”
Punk, who competed for years on the regional wrestling circuit before signing with the WWE, said he has tried everything to avoid surgery, seeing a “chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy. Nothing worked.”
