Anderson Silva Doesn’t Believe Brazil Can Rule MMA Again

ufc 198

There was a time when Brazil appeared to be the leading country in the world of MMA.

Over the past few years, though, things have changed dramatically.

During a recent press conference to promote UFC 198, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva explained why the future does not look good for his home country.

“I believe that we lost a lot,” Silva said (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). “This thing about having this force, and this ability to go in there and renew – I had the opportunity to come from a time when I had great idols in the sport, and looking up to them I was able to get to where I’m at today.

“We can’t see that today in the new talents that we have.”

Silva, Junior dos Santos, Jose Aldo and Renan Barao have all worn UFC gold in recent years, while Vitor Belfort is a former champion and challenger. Currently, Fabricio Werdum wears the heavyweight gold and Rafael dos Anjos the lightweight title.

Up next for Silva, who lost to Michael Bisping recently, will be a bout with Uriah Hall.
