UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier explained what happened that forced him out of UFC 197 during a recent appearance on “UFC Tonight.”
Cormier was scheduled to face Jon Jones, but underwent surgery and will be out for a few months.
“I had a kick checked,” he said. “I fell over not knowing what happened. By end of the weekend, my leg was very swollen. I did an MRI because of all of the swelling and found out I tore a ligament.”
Cormier also said his invitation to train Ovince Saint Preux – who meets Jones for the interim title – was “an offer you don’t anticipate people taking. But by putting it out there, it says: ‘anyone but Jon.’ The enemy of my friend is my friend. I’d help anybody but Jones.”
