UFC FN 87: Alistair Overeem Puts Away Andrei Arlovski

alistair overeem

Not many people were predicting that Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski would go the distance today at UFC Fight Night 87 in Rotterdam, and that indeed was the case.

Overeem battled through an early and vicious flurry from Arlovski, and in round two, he took out his teammate in jaw dropping fashion. Overeem stunned Arlovski with a jumping kick to the jaw, and then dropped the former heavyweight champ with a huge left. Overeem continued to pound away with punches, and the fight was quickly brought to an end.

Following the impressive win, Overeem called for a title shot, and asked to fight the winner of Fabricio Werdum – Stipe Miocic. That bout will take place next weekend at UFC 198. Overeem also asked that his title shot go down at the UFC’s NYC debut on November 12th.

In the co-headliner, Stefan Struve needed just 15 seconds to take out “Bigfoot” Silva. The latter charged out to begin the fight, but was greeted with a counter punch and a hard knee to the body. As Silva attempted to take Struve to the mat, the 7’0 tall fighter blasted away with elbows, and the fight was stopped.
