As he posted on social media, Stipe Miocic’s first heavyweight title defense will take place “in the Land!”
Miocic announced that UFC 203 will go down September 10 from Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals Wednesday night.
It marks the debut of the Octagon in Cleveland, and has everything to do with Miocic after the Ohio native won the belt with a first round knockout of Fabricio Werdum in Brazil earlier this month.
The 33-year-old Miocic (15-2) has won three in a row and is 6-1 over his last seven, including his finish of Werdum. He’s also topped Andrei Arlovski, Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson.
Overeem (41-14) sports a four-fight win streak that features a recent knockout of Arlovski and victories over Junior dos Santos, Nelson and Stefan Struve.
