Erik Koch came out and got after Shane Campbell Sunday night at UFC Fight Night 88.
The Iowa native and veteran scored his second win in his last three bouts, locking up a rear-naked choke and getting the tap in the second round.
Koch (15-5) has gone 5-3 over his last eight, including a 2011 knockout of Raphael Assuncao. In 2014, he returned to lightweight and finished Rafaello Oliveira.
“It’s been a long two years,” Koch said. “I was suppose to fight (former UFC champion) Jose Aldo for the title. People forgot my name so I gotta make a statement.
“I come to finish fights. Win or lose, I’m coming to bring it.”
Later that year, a loss to Daron Cruickshank sent Koch to the sidelines. Injuries kept him there until his return this past weekend.
“I’m coming for a title,” he said. “My mental clarity is coming and I’m putting all the pieces together. I’m not done.
“This is just the beginning.”
Campbell (12-5) has one just 1-3 with the UFC.
